Collagen is the most abundant protein in every pet's body. The entire body depends on collagen for its structural strength and functioning. Collagen and calcium are essential components of healthy bones. Bone health and strength are associated with an active life—unfortunately, every animal's ability to produce collagen declines naturally with age.
What is the importance of collagen for pet health?
When animals are young, the body produces substantial amounts of collagen. Recent studies show that by the time your dog or cat is one year old they are in fact, the equivalent of 31 human years!! Collagen depletion is a natural part of every pet's ageing process and results in visible and degenerative signs of ageing—lost collagen results in deteriorating bone health which can cause mobility issues, discomfort and pain. In older animals, the daily intake of protein can often be suboptimal. Low protein levels contribute to joint stiffness, arthritis and osteoporosis, a condition where bone mineral density is low. Low bone mineral density (BMD) is associated with bone instability, weakness, discomfort and increased fracture risks, commonly in the spine, shoulder and hip.
